Stakeholder Meetings with REDESCA

The RHGS team held two stakeholder engagement meetings with REDESCA to advance work on strengthening regional health governance across the Americas.

These meetings played a critical role in shaping upcoming research outputs, refining engagement strategies, and preparing for the 2022 regional symposium.

📅 9 May 2022 — Initial Stakeholder Consultation

The first meeting, held on 9 May 2022, brought together representatives from REDESCA and members of the RHGS project team, including Project Lead Prof. Uchechukwu Ngwaba and JD student researcher Sukndeep Samra.

Discussion Highlights

  • Strengthening existing health governance systems within the framework of the IAHRS (Inter-American Human Rights System).
  • REDESCA provided feedback on RHGS’s emerging research questions and supported the development of a stakeholder questionnaire.
  • The session helped clarify engagement priorities for the upcoming September conference.

Next Steps Identified

  • Circulation of meeting notes
  • Refinement of the project plan
  • Coordination of outreach and engagement materials

📅 27 June 2022 — Follow-Up Meeting & Project Planning

A second meeting on 27 June 2022 deepened earlier discussions and advanced preparations for the RHGS symposium and related publications.

Participants included REDESCA leadership — Ms. Soledad García Muñoz, Ms. Paula Mora, Ms. Victoria, Ms. Lucrecia Aguilar, and Ms. Ingrid Alvarez — alongside Prof. Ngwaba and JD student Sukndeep Samra.

Key Outcomes

  • Continued refinement of governance and public engagement strategies aligned with IAHRS mandates.
  • Review of a draft Concept Note, with confirmation of interest in a special journal issue with the University of Dayton Law Review.
  • Planning for the September 2022 Symposium, including hybrid participation, expanded invitations, and flexible contribution formats.
  • Questionnaire revisions to ensure clarity and usability across international forums.
  • Plans to develop an op-ed following the symposium to amplify findings and policy implications.

Why These Meetings Matter

REDESCA’s collaboration is central to RHGS’s mandate to co-produce equity-driven approaches to regional health governance. Their insights strengthen the project’s analytical frameworks, enhance stakeholder engagement, and help shape outputs that speak directly to regional needs and realities.

Ongoing dialogues with REDESCA continue to guide RHGS’s research, policy translation, and strategic planning across the Americas.
