Dr. Mathieu Poirier

Associate Professor

Dr. Mathieu Poirier is the Director of the Global Strategy Lab, York Research Chair in Global Health Equity, and Associate Professor of Social Epidemiology at York University’s School of Global Health.

His interdisciplinary research spans international law evaluation, health equity metrics, and policy-oriented analyses of social and political determinants of health. As Research Director for Global Legal Epidemiology, he has led influential studies on global tobacco control published in top journals, and as Co-Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on AMR Governance, he advances evidence-based approaches to global health governance.

With experience across Latin America and the Caribbean, he has directed vector-borne disease research in Haiti, co-produced the documentary More Than Migrants, and supports field-based learning at Costa Rica’s Las Nubes EcoCampus.

Dr. Poirier holds a BSc in Biological Sciences, an MPH in Global Health Practice, and a PhD in Health Policy.
