Dr. Karline Wilson-Mitchell

Dr. Karline Wilson-Mitchell is an Associate Professor of Midwifery at Toronto Metropolitan University and a globally recognized leader in maternal and newborn health equity.

With over 35 years of clinical and academic experience in North America and abroad, she has advanced trauma-informed, evidence-based care and led transformative educational initiatives for midwives.

Her SSHRC-funded “Canadian Midwives of Colour Project” and innovative digital self-reflection tools highlight her commitment to addressing systemic inequities in health professions. Through international consultancies in Tanzania, South Sudan, and Jamaica, she has championed respectful maternity care and policy reform. Her work bridges clinical education, equity research, and health system change through inclusive, interdisciplinary collaboration.
